Burnsville, MN (July, 2009) — Superior Consulting Services (SCS), a technology firm that combines highly experienced IT professionals with Microsoft products and tools to solve business problems, has created a custom software application that moves the age-old time clock in to the 21st century.
SCS used its proprietary Superior Way methodology to identify and implement a solution which replaced the old time keeping approach. The time clock became a business risk after the time clock vendor went out of business. The vendor’s proprietary hardware and closed software model prevented SCS’ client from making enhancements to time keeping activities or keep pace with changes in business needs.
“Our client, Vision Woodworking, was unhappy with their closed system and uncooperative vendors. They desired full control of their business,” said Mark Herzog, SCS Chief of Staff. “The SCS developer architected a solution that is hardware-independent and fully open to software customization. Plus, the developer got to get his creative juices flowing and had fun configuring the touch screen operating system. Sounds like a win–win to me!”
SCS created a custom-written time entry program using state of the art Microsoft .NET development tools. The program is deployed to work with low-cost, off-the-shelf, touch screen PCs running the Windows operating system. The solution eliminates any worries about having the hardware tied to a specific vendor, and the software application can be changed at any time to match changing business needs. Employees now choose from human-readable lists of projects instead of generic project numbers when punching in and out, thereby reducing errant project labor charges and time consuming research and correction activity in the front office. Managers can also see labor charges in real time; no more waiting until the numbers are audited before project status reporting can be completed.
