SCS Business Intelligence Consultant selected from 1,000 U.S. based Microsoft Partner MVPs worldwide for playing a key role in his company’s success
Minneapolis, MN (July 6, 2011) — Superior Consulting Services (SCS), a technology firm that combines highly experienced IT professionals with Microsoft products and tools to solve business problems, is pleased to announce that Redmond Channel Partner (RCP) selected SCS Senior Business Intelligence Consultant Dan English as a top 10 U.S.-based Microsoft® Partner Most Valuable Professional (MVP) for 2011. In addition, for the second year in a row Microsoft presented English with the Microsoft SQL Server MVP Award for 2011.
RCP editors chose the top 10 MVPs, out of approximately 1,000 Microsoft Partner MVPs worldwide; these experts’ status as an MVP has an impact on the Microsoft partner companies’ ability to win business. RCP explains that the Microsoft MVP logo “is a badge of honor in the IT world.” In the Microsoft channel, the badge is something more — it signifies a champion within a partner company that helps the entire firm establish its market credibility.
“We are not surprised RCP selected Dan as a top 10 Microsoft Partner MVP. He is instrumental to our company and has significantly impacted our clients’ business needs,” said SCS Owner John Miller. “His SQL Server expertise is invaluable and contributes to SCS’ status as a Microsoft leader. We are proud of Dan and appreciate his contributions to SCS and the SQL Server technical communities.”
Recently, English played a crucial role in helping Minnesota-headquartered I.C. System, one of the largest receivables management companies in the U.S., use Microsoft business intelligence tools to access, interact with, and visualize their data in a fast and intuitive way. English designed a data warehousing solution to improve reporting and also provide self-service analytical capabilities and dashboarding functionality. He leveraged the Microsoft Business Intelligence stack of tools using the SQL Server database engine, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, Excel, PerformancePoint, and SharePoint.
Rowland Gosling, Manager of Data Services at I.C. System, knew Dan as past president of the PASSMN/Minnesota SQL Server user group and recommended him for the project based on his expertise in data warehousing and business intelligence.
Gosling said, “I have known Dan for several years and he was my first choice to lead the project because of his proven expertise and depth of knowledge on SQL Server. He built our data warehouse from scratch in eight weeks. He was instrumental in mentoring and training the team and correcting inefficiencies. He made my life easier.”
Gosling explained that the project design followed the Kimball Institute’s guidelines for data warehouses to help avoid common pitfalls such as a large failure rate. He adds, “As anticipated, Dan delivered on time and under budget. Now, we are able to reduce report generation times from 10 minutes down to a few seconds.”
“Dan did a fantastic job in helping us get our warehouse off the ground,” said Thomas Emms, CIO at I.C. System. “He is by far one of the best consultants I have worked with to date.”
English has worked with Microsoft technologies for over 14 years, including more than seven years of experience with data warehousing and business intelligence. He architects and develops dashboard solutions for enterprise reporting and monitoring. He is experienced in Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes and Analysis Services development, requirements gathering and data modeling. English is a Microsoft SQL Server MVP, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS).
In response to being named one of the top 10 Microsoft Partner MVPs English said, “I was honored and caught off guard. Being named top 10 of anything is a real privilege. It is a distinguished honor to be recognized as a top leader.”
English enjoys keeping in contact with the community at large, responding to postings on the Microsoft forums and SQL Server Central areas, and giving presentations. Currently, he is on the leadership team for the Minnesota Microsoft Business Intelligence user group. His screencasts of SQL Server 2008 can be seen on YouTube and Vimeo. English is also an avid blogger and tweeter.
